Abstract

Introduction: A preterm newborn becomes vulnerable to several complications that can affect their growth and development, in addition to motor, sensory and respiratory changes. Objective: To characterize the profile of premature newborns who are assisted by the follow-up project of the Clínica Escola de Fisioterapia. Methods: A cross-sectional, retrospective, descriptive and documentary study was carried out, where 41 medical records were analyzed at the university's outpatient clinic, between the years 2020 to 2022, with exclusion criteria for newborns >37 weeks. Results: There was agreement with the literature on Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) related to the time of Mechanical Ventilation (MV) and Oxygen Therapy, in addition to a greater need for physiotherapeutic care in premature male newborns. Conclusion: It is concluded that the characterization made through the follow up project is extremely important for these premature newborns.
